FISHING MOSQUITO LAGOON

The Mosquito Lagoon is a world class fishing destination. It holds the title ‘Redfish Capital of the World’! When I was growing up, the only redfish were in the northern part of the river, right near my Fishcamp. The famous flats of the Lagoon then held only speckeled trout. Redfish were stocked here in the early 1980’s. With any luck, you can catch fish from the beach or banks of the Lagoon. If you see someone catching fish, watch them for a while. Don’t be afraid to go up to them and start a conversation.  Fishermen are friendly; they just don’t like to be crowded. Plenty of guides and fishermen hang out at the Fishcamp. Buying them a beer works well! Remember that you must have a saltwater license to fish now in Florida. Although we sell frozen bait at the Fishcamp, we do not sell fishing licenses.

BRINGING YOUR OWN BOAT

A quarter of a mile south of the Fishcamp is the Canaveral National Seashore. There is a boat ramp there right off of A1A. Vehicles with boats on trailers are allowed to launch and park there for free. Due to the popularity of our fishing, the parking lot there is often full. Go early! You will get a ticket if you are not in a marked parking space; however, you can launch then drive your truck and trailer back out of the park and park along the river. Your buddy can then pick you up in the boat. So far this is working. There are also many ramps on the mainland as an option. Remember that the Lagoon waters are shallow with lots of oyster bars waiting for you to run aground! So take it easy or be prepared to go out and buy a new propeller! Once you are in the water, it’s a short boatride from there to our dock with plenty of boat parking. We’ll then serve you the best cold beer and seafood in the world! Plus, it’s a great place to swap fishing tales!

FISHING GUIDES

In my opinion, the best option is to hire a fishing guide. Whether you have zero experience or you’re a master angler, our suggested guides will show you a good time. I will mention at this time that this is not a theme park. Some days it will be like fishing in a barrel and other days hardly catching anything. But you know the saying, ‘That’s why they call it fishing’! The guides work with each other finding fish. The Fishcamp does not book the guides nor is there any commission involved. They will pick you up at the Fishcamp in the morning and return whenever your day is done. Make sure and leave time to stop at the restaurant and share your day over a cold beer and some great seafoodI’m going to drop a few names here – No disrespect to any fishing guide not mentioned!
